Welcome to this weeks instalment of the Beardie Weirdie Blog!
Well, there’s no denying that that year is marching on. I’d like to think that early summer is upon us - things in the garden are growing and getting cut, and my beard is growing, but not getting cut. Also, the smell of outdoor cooking on the BBQ on sunny days is hard to avoid.
Not remotely beard related. but with a mention nevertheless, is the Stotfold Mill Steam Fair and Country Show. Having been brought up in a coal bunker, messing about with steam engines, I can thoroughly recommend spending a day there.
I’ve picked up a couple of donations from two of my regulars – my lovely Mum, Rose, and my friend Chris. Thanks again to them for their support.
This weeks photo was taken on Thursday lunchtime by me. My office is close enough to the River Great Ouse in Bedford to get out for a nice walk. Looks like I’m going blonde in the full sun!

Moving on to this weeks Beard of the Week, suggested by my friend Tom, this week is Charles Darwin.Beards were much more popular in Victorian times, and I hope to continue bringing the beard back.

Well, it’s Friday already! Time sure does fly when you’re growing a beard. I went for a walk along by the river in Bedford at lunchtime yesterday. It was a windy day, and I could actually feel my beard blowing in the wind! Sounds like the start of a Bob Dylan parody! “My beard my friend, is blowing in the wind. My beard is blowing in the wind.”
The past week has included Mothers Day. Sunday involved lots of family visits, and we had our first BBQ of the year. A great time was had by all!
The beard is definitely growing. Here’s the current shot took on Thursday night:

I guess everyone is giving their hard earned to Comic Relief this week, hence no donations to the Beardie Weirdie cause. So in the spirit of “if you can’t beat them, join them”, this weeks blog is dedicated to Comic Relief - Red Nose Day!
The motto of the Comic Relief campaing this time round is “Do Something Funny for Money!”, so here’s my contribution:
For those of you unable to view the video on YouTube, here’s a still from the movie:

Carrying on the Comic Relief theme, this weeks Beard of the Week is Lenny Henry. Not particularly known for being a beardie, but as luck would have it, he’s had to grow a beard for his role in Othello.

I have selected the first charity that I will be fundraising for - The Pasque Charity
The Pasque Charity provides specialist palliative care for adults and children with life-limiting conditions. Their mission is to provide the best quality of life for their patients and their families as they prepare for a dignified death.
Their multi-professional approach involves medical, nursing, social, spiritual and emotional care and is provided 24 hours-a-day, every day of the year. Care is free to all regardless of race, religion or culture.
The Pasque Charity operates two hospice services - The Pasque Adult Hospice and Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice. The hospice buildings are located together within beautiful countryside just north of Luton. They also run a children’s community nursing team who work with families in their own homes.
Operating the two hospice services will cost £5 million this year. As an independent charity, they rely on the generosity of the local community to raise 75% of this figure, so please dig deep for this worthy cause.
