During the war… No comments yet

Welcome to this weeks instalment of the Beardie Weirdie Blog!

Well, today, 6th March is the 66th day of 2009.  So far, I’ve raised over £1 per day for charity.  I’m hoping to ultimately pass a pound per day, but am pleased with the progress so far.  This weeks donations are from Chris, and from my lovely wife, so a big, big thank you to you both.

Exciting news today, I’ve discovered a chappy across the pond in Cleveland who’s also doing a Year of the Beard.  I’ve had a read through his blog, and he sounds like a good bloke!  He must be - he gives me a mention!

Well, my beard is growing well.  The moustache is already starting to get quite annoying, it’s crawling over my top lip, so I’m going to have to give it some serious training.  I’m a good way off being able to plait it to keep it out of the way!

Here’s the current mug shot, taken on Thursday evening.

Welcome to this weeks instalment of the Beardie Weirdie Blog!

The birthday weekend was a good one, very relaxing!  Saw lots of friends and family, and got spoilt rotten.

Another flat week on donations, think I might have to do a press release or similar…….

While it’s quiet though, I’m pleased to say that the beard is still growing.  It’s rapidly encroaching on my top lip, which is only going to get more and more annoying.  I did receive a beard comb and wax from my lovely, supportive wife, so I will have to get it trained.

Here’s the progress so far:

Swiftly moving along, this weeks Beard of the Week, suggested by my a couple of people, namely Tom and Laura, is a tribute to the Six Nations.  While I’m not particularly a sports fan, I always enjoy international rugby fixtures, especially the Six Nations tournament, and to celebrate the first ever Six Nations match on a Friday this weeks Beard of the Week is dedicated to the bearded rugby players.

There have been many bearded rugby players over the years, but I wanted to limit it the 2009 squads, and this year, alas, beards are poorly represented in rugby.  Based on the official photographs on the official site (so apologies for errors of omissions), England and Scotland squads can only muster stubble at best.  Wales, Ireland, Italy and France however have a beardie per squad.  Adam Rhys Jones from Wales, Marcus Horan from Ireland, Sebastien Chabal from France and Martin Castrogiovanni from Italy.

Dirty Knee, I’m 33! 3 comments

Welcome to a special issue of the Beardie Weirdie Blog!
Today, 20th February is my 33rd birthday!  One third of a century!  (save a few of months).  I started a tradition when I started working to never work on my birthday.  In that theme, I have taken a couple of days off to kick back at home with the wife and kids.  It’s half term in Bedfordshire this week, so it’s been pretty good timing.

The birthday will involve a lazy morning, featuring a lie in, and lots of tea and crumpets, somewhere tasty for lunch, then family visitors later on in the day.  Perfect!

The credit crunch is in full flow now, the initial flurry of donations have dried up.  I think some guerilla marketing might be in order……  More on that later on.

I had my first outing for work this week, and my good friend Oakers suggested that a suited and booted Beardie might make a good Kodak moment, so here it is!  This photo was taken by my lovely wife, Sam, on Tuesday night on my return from Camberley.

I haven’t done a pointless poll recently, so this week I’m asking for your opinion on:

Daddy or Chips?

  • Chips (67.0%, 6 Votes)
  • Daddy (56.0%, 5 Votes)

Total Voters: 9

Swiftly moving along, this weeks Beard of the Week, suggested by my sister Nic, is Steve Cropper.  Famous to most for his roll in the Blues Brothers, but Steve Cropper is an incredible guitar player.  I’d recommend looking him up on You Tube.

So far so good on the not shaving front! Starting to edge towards a decent scruff. My neck is getting quite itchy. I’m hoping that this pass as the hair gets longer and softens. My hair is growing at a fair old rate too, so in a couple more weeks I’ll have to decide whether to buzz it off, or let it grow out.

Have picked up a couple more donations this week - big shout out to Dan and Leah!  Your hard earned will be greatly appreciated.

Moving on to this weeks “Beard of the Week” - Professor Albus Dumbledore.  Now I’m not a big fan of Harry Potter, but there’s no denying that he does have a pretty cool beard!

Well, I haven’t shaved yet in 2009, but then I guess that would apply to a lot of blokes on an extended Christmas break!

No more than a little stubble yet, but I’m sure as the year progresses, so will my beardiness.  As you can see below, not much happening in 2 days:

Moving on to the first ever “Beard of the Week”

As I have got a looooong year ahead of me, I thought I’d start off with Father Time:

More to follow next week, I ought to be a tad more scruffy by then!

Merry Christmas! 4 comments

Although it’s only 6 sleeps until Christmas, I’m not feeling very festive yet.  I think it’s probably because I have to work next week - even Christmas Eve (cue violins!)
With a bit of luck, this time next year, I’ll be sporting an enviable full set.  Wonder if I’ll be able to white it up, and get a gig as Santa?
Anyway, to one and all, Merry Christmas, and a Prosperous 2009!

Merry Christmas!

Still Shaving No comments yet

Well, I’m still relatively clean shave.  From losing the goatee getting on for 2 months ago, I have shaved at least weekly.  Although this is less regular than most blokes, it is significantly more regular for this scruffy herbert.

With my last shave for the year lined up for New Years Eve, I’ve only got 2 and a little bit weeks to go.

Bring on the beard!

Here’s a rare photo of me without the glasses on:

Well, winter is definitely upon us!  I’ve had to scrape frost and ice off the car most mornings this week, and even once when I went out on Tuesday evening.

It’s wrap up warm time, with a combo of gloves, scarves, fleeces and thick coats for me.

My face is feeling the cold – this time next year, I should be the proud owner of, what I hope, will be a fairly lengthy full beard.

Here are my artist’s impressions of before and after shots:

It’s Children in Need today (BBC1 from 7pm)

You can donate to this very worthy cause here

More to the point, you may, like me, wonder what Pudsey Bear would look like with a beard.  Here’s my artists impression:

Not much going down on the beard front this week, apart from the lamb chops are growing, and I’m still shaving.

I did email Just For Men hoping to get some support to promote their beard dye, but I never heard back from them, so I’ll perhaps try Grecian, and any other beard dye manufacturers that I can find…..  Or perhaps I go technicolour?  I think it will be mainly brown, with hints of blonde, ginger and grey.

Must also get my finger out and sort out some Facebook pages and prepare to do so some “social networking” in the New Year.

I made this a while ago - Sideburn Monster.  Random?  Yes, definitely!
